In these times of hustle and struggle to work from home, the working hours can become overwhelming. You may feel irritated and angry on slightest discomfort, probably because all you need is –

  • A properly framed schedule
  • Stress-free rest
  • Calming sleep
  • Opportunities to break free from workload

Or ALL OF THE ABOVE!

What can be the solution when such situations arise?

With the ongoing pandemic, it is slightly difficult to move out for a trip in the mountains or at the beach (if you stay in a city like mine with no real travel destinations to go to, you will relate to this point) which hence is causing you the irritation and anger. But what else can be done to calm that belligerent mind?

What if I provide you simple solutions with simple steps?

Step 1 –

Create a daily/weekly/fortnightly/monthly TO-DO List

Yes, this is the number 1 solution for all your problems. Starting with the key point, that only creating a to-do list will not suffice, sticking to that list is the real solution here.

What help does a to-do list provide?

  • Creating a to-do list and following it can reduce your tensed schedule to around 50% of what it is now.
  • Setting your goals for the day, week, two weeks, or for an entire month can provide you clarity on how you wish to go with your time management.
  • You have a detailed time-table ready for your responsibilities
  • You can always make time for your personal life if you have a to-do list ready
  • With a to-do list, you have your mindset clear on how much time you would like to spend on a certain task

Isn’t it surprising, looking at the wonders a to-do list can do?

When you have clear goals, smooth work frames, proper timelines, and dedicated tasks to indulge yourself in, you can observe the changes in your irritated self too, you can hence observe the smooth workflow and management, which is why a proper timetable is needed. Try this strategy out if you haven’t already!

Step 2 –

Don’t overload yourself

Stress can be a major reason behind your constant exasperation. Work stress can often reflect in your personal life and can intervene in your happy, smooth living. Thus, to avoid this work stress, choose a proper timeline and dedicate yourself to work wholeheartedly in those particular hours, while saving some hours for personal growth too.

  • Focus on not just a work or a personal life, but balancing the two
  • Take up only those number of tasks in a day you are sure you can achieve, while for the others, seek more time from your manager or if you are your boss, segregate tasks as per their deadlines — work on those which require completion in priority.
  • Create schedules and the number of hours you would like to dedicate to a particular task and work accordingly, for example –

If you are a student as well as a part-time/full-time employee or freelancer like me, give some number of hours to your studies while some number of hours to work — prioritize the one which requires more attention,

Or if you work for 8 hours in a day but you have pending assignments to be completed beyond the 8 hours, make sure to give yourself some time to refresh and relax. Make sure to not hustle for 24 hours because you are a human, not a robot, thus, give yourself time to bounce back in the day by taking breaks in between.

Step 3 –

Keep treating yourself with your coping mechanisms

Work amidst a pandemic might seem overwhelming, especially this second wave which has been a tough time with so many negativities around. It is practically not possible to see and hear so much and continue living unaffected. For many, work from home well is a difficult task for varied reasons, but hey, you got this. You’ve handled it all for so long, and I am sure you will not give up so soon either.

Hence, ending this 3-step article with a reminder to pat yourself in the back and appreciate yourself for going through so much.

  • Treat yourself time and again with anything you find your happiness in

(To me, I love eating desserts and ice creams whenever I feel overwhelmed or read a feel-good book or watch a cute rom-com, it helps me, this idea might help you too!)

  • Remind yourself that your mental stability is more important than anything else

Of course, you can. Asking for a break from work either from your boss or yourself will cause you no harm.

  • Don’t shy away from asking for breaks from work,

(If you handle your own business, voila, you need nobody to seek permission from, and taking a day or two off will not incur you any deadly loss.

Or, if you work in a company or under someone, ask for a leave to rest your mind as much as your body needs it.

Trust me, managers do understand and if they do not consider it a red flag and start looking for work elsewhere)

You do not need to hustle, struggle, and overstress yourself in order to be successful.

All you need to do is work smart, under particularly dedicated hours, by maintaining your framework, and by refreshing yourself time and again. Follow this process for a week and see the gradual change in your behavior.

Fall in love with your work but don’t change your workspace to be toxic for you. By knowing this difference and implementing it in your daily life you will not even know but you are doing successful wonders.

Keep going!
